- A royal ingredient Chocolate
- Spanish general Hernando Cortes landed in Mexico in 1519. The Aztecs, believing him to be a god, honored him by serving an unusual drink presented in a cup of pure gold. Cortes returned to Spain with the cocoa bean, and there it was mixed with sugar and vanilla. The new drink quickly became fashionable, and soon there were chocolate houses in all the capitals of Europe.
